Within magic, there are lots of things to learn and buy, and all kinds of reasons for doing so.  Sometimes we want to add a new piece of magic to an act that makes us a living – other times, we might just REALLY want to know how a trick is done.  Both are good.   Often, finding out how a trick works leads to disappointment, on some level at least.  I often hear people talking about a trick that I love, and perhaps even do, by saying ‘well, it’s only rough and smooth’ or ‘it’s only a folding coin’ or whatever.  Most of the time, the methods just aren’t as clever as you think they are going to be.   Sometimes though, the method can be genius, and sometimes even the best part of the trick! I try not to use the word favourite, because I’m sure in a couple of weeks time my  list could be totally different.  But here are a bundle of tricks that I think sort of flew under the radar, and why I like them, and most of them are suitable for complete beginners , or those with just the smallest amount of experience. Kidz Kardz by Richard Pinner. This is a great trick, because the old Mental Photography / Svengali decks are great tricks, but rarely seen used in a professional capacity - a combination of their familiarity and availability to lay people as well as magicians.
